  « Paul showed up in the office holding an unassuming, unlabeled CD-R at
  3:01. By 3:04, we had all heard the first sample of U2 v2009.

  I only got to hear “Get On Your Boots” (NOT “Sexy Boots” or “Get Your
  Boots On,” as reported earlier) so forgive the lack of detail. But
  here’s what I can tell you:

  There are some new sounds that could only come from an Eno/Lanois
  production, which left me with a feeling similar to what I experienced
  when I heard “The Fly” for the first time.

  This is NOT a back-to-basics guitar/bass/drums track like “Vertigo” or
  even “Beautiful Day.” There’s some definite sonic evolution going on
  here.

  It does rock. To find the last time a first single was a ballad, you
  have to go all the way back to “With Or Without You.” That worked out
  all right, but I can’t imagine U2 doing that again in the prevailing
  musical environment.

  Bono manages to rhyme “submarine” with “gasoline” and says something
  about “don’t talk to me about the state of nations.”

  There’s a portion of the melody that somehow reminds me of the cadence
  of the verses in Elvis Costello’s “Pump It Up,” but as I write this,
  I’m not completely sure. Still, part of the song reminded me
  of…something else.

  Did I like it? I d
  idn’t hate it—but I need to hear it more before I
  really make up my mind about what I think about….anything to do with
  the song.

  Like so many U2 songs—especially ones produced by an
  Eno/Lanois/Lilywhite nexus—it’s filled with far more subtleties and
  complexities that anyone can hear with one listen. I need to examine
  it, ponder upon it and otherwise live with it.

  But that’s the cool thing about U2. There’s just so much THERE there
  that it can take a while to sort through it all. Suffice it to say,
  however, that if you’re a U2 fan, you’ll be pleased.»

  I only quoted the portion I wish to comment upon, you should read the
  full blog post because it’s very interesting. 1. Thank God its not back
  to basics. 2. Three minutes is good news, that means its really tight,
  but hopefully not overproduced. 3. I’m glad it’s giving a long-time
  listener a WTF moment. I’m not a big fan of The Fly, Numb, or
  Discotheque, but I think those singles were exactly what I needed as a
  music fan. Something so new that I would question their sanity in
  putting out a record like THAT. 4. Ugh lyrics. So they finally get to
  use « Don’t talk to me about the rights of the IRA?»  There’s still time,
  guys, to edit. Mole.Hole.Soul.Repeat 5. The derivative sound. As time
  goe
  s on, I think bands are more likely to unconsciously plagrize.
  Didn’t the Rolling Stones have to give K.D. Lang a credit on their last
  album because they had wrapped a track and someone told them that they
  had appropriated her song? The cadence of the verses in Pump It Up
  could just be the cadence of the verses in Vertigo. Maybe that’s what
  he hears. 6. I’m now cautiously optomistic about the album. Not the
  tour. I wouldn’t pay $200 to hear Bono solo in Las Vegas in a fifteen
  person room. I’m certainly not going to do it with over-the-hill
  fanatics, glib-LA insiders, and people taking beer runs during « Walk to
  the Water.»  Wait, I’d pay $200 to hear just Walk to the Water live. At
  least with 1987 Bono singing.

  demain aussi il devrait y avoir quelque chose à se mettre sous la dent puisqu’on devrait pouvoir publier la pochette de l’album et la tracklist

  une piste pour donner une idée de ce à quoi peut ressembler la pochette ? des sources (l’admin de U2valencia sur son forum, par exemple) indiquent que le U et le 2 serait l’un en dessous de l’autre, plus que quelques heures pour vérifier tout ça !
